I was gifted the Panasonic NN-CS89L Convection Microwave Oven in exchange for an honest review on Panasonic’s website. The 4 in 1 Microwave does what the name says. It combines 4 cooking functions without compromising on the effectiveness of any. I was skeptical of the ability of a bench top appliance to perform well in convection oven cooking, but it really does, roast and bake on the bench top. Works really well if smaller quantities need to be oven cooked, such as veggies for a salad or when different oven temps are needed for parts of a meal. A convenient way of having a second oven without having to reconfigure the kitchen! Microwave works as normal but is easier to clean as there is no turntable. I’m using my 4 in 1 convection microwave every day, my favourite function is the convection cooking.

I was gifted the Panasonic NN-CS89L Convection Microwave Oven in exchange for an honest review on Panasonic’s website. I love that this appliance does it all combining different methods of cooking meaning I can cook reheat , steam , grill all in one, the only negative is that you have to have the bench space for it as it is slightly larger than my old microwave

I was gifted the NN-CS89L Convection Microwave Oven in exchange for an honest review on Panasonic’s website. This is an impressive machine that can indeed cook food faster by using a combination of cooking functions. One of my favourites is using the combination of Microwave and Convection to help speed up the crisping of the skin for Crispy Pork Belly. I’ve also used Grill and Convection to nicely cook chicken wings and drumsticks and Steam and Convection to make Steamed Buns. I’ve also found it convenient to simply switch and use the Grill function at the end of cooking if I just need the food to be a little bit more brown on top. This 4-in-1 microwave oven is larger than a standard microwave and so may not fit into all built-in wall cabinets, as in the case of mine. You must allow adequate space around the machine. This is especially so when cooking and expecting excess moisture. This was experienced when Microwave and Convection combo cooking the chicken pieces. The pressure caused by the excess moisture created from the Microwave function in this combination lead to steam leaking from the front door seal on the top and right. As such it’s probably best to use this on a countertop. Having 3 tray levels is also a nice feature, allowing you to place multiple trays or levels. Included was a wire-shelf, a standard metal tray and a grill tray. However, it would have been nicer if the grill tray had steeper ridges, and if the grooves were slightly angled to better help the fat drip to the sides of the tray. One of my major dislikes for this product is the lack of lighting inside whilst cooking. Although there are two small light sources on the right hand side, they are very dim, especially if you use two trays. You will not be able to see how golden brown your food is and may have to pause and check occasionally. There is also no number pad, so expect to press the button to cycle through the various temperatures for Convection only cooking.

The first thing to mention is that you should be prepared to learn how to use the oven. The instruction booklet is quite detailed and will help you to get the most out of the functions and get some great results. The oven is heavy so you should consider this before trying to lift it or install it. I personally have it on a kitchen island and that works well for me. I wouldn’t install it above chest height mainly because the door opens downward like a tailgate and could make it difficult to operate safely. The build quality is very good. The colours of the glass and casing are fairly neutral so I’d imagine it would match a variety of kitchen colour schemes and not clash with other appliances. The fabrication of the outer casing has a premium feeling finish and the door hinges have a firm but smooth action. The trays and grill also feel as if they are made of good quality materials. I found the interior and all components very easy to clean. The exterior of the oven did get warm, but not to an unsafe level. The oven gets up to temperature quickly . It took approx. 5-8 minutes to reach 200 degrees. I’ve been able to cook bread, cake, brownies, roast, wings, fish, vegetables etc. with very good results. It’s not quite “set and forget” but it’s pretty close once you are confident operating it. Everything I have cooked so far has cooked through evenly. The instructions booklet provides many recipes which is great to get you started and helps you to adapt your own recipes to the oven. The steam-shot function definitely improved the results of the bread that I baked. If you were to install a wall oven, it would probably need its own circuit (is it 30 Amp?). This oven just plugs in to a normal power point. It could also be good option if you needed an oven for a granny flat, during a renovation, rental property, portacabin, site office etc. I was gifted the NN-CS89L Convection Microwave in exchange for an honest review on Panasonic’s website

I have never owned a combination appliance, and not had a microwave for over 10 years. I was gifted the NN-CS89L Convection Microwave in exchange for an honest review on Panasonic’s website.  The advertising algorithm must have picked up on my searches for a new bench top oven, and I entered the competition, which I won.  I think I am an interesting tester, as I have long been sceptical of home appliances that claim to be multipurpose, I am much more ac The manual is extensive and to really understand how to use all the different combinations you are going to need to spend some time learning these. It is a long time since I have owned a microwave and I have never had a convection microwave so a bit of reading as to what trays and materials suit which mode was defiantly required, so far no sparks so I must be a quick learner.  The favourite mode for me is the convection mode and the ability to ‘steam inject’ for 1-3 minutes whilst cooking. in convection mode.   This is something we do in commercial ovens when reheating slow cooked meats or roasting  as it prevents the product drying out and also reduces weight loss  (of the product you are cooking, not when you stand on the scales).  The results in this mode are better than any other domestic solution for reheating.  I have also used this when roasting veg, a little steam inject to kick the process along and then finish with convection to build flavour.  I have notice that the oven is very dark, even when operation and the light is on.  This look sleek, but you will need to open the door to get an idea of how the cooking is going.  I imagine this may be an issue for some, especially less confident cooks.  As a microwave I have been impressed with the consistency of the heating.  Without a ‘turntable’ I thought food may reheat unevenly, however, with this unit I have found that is not the case.   I have been impressed with the convection oven for cakes, I had great success with a bundt cake (attached picture).
